The Unmarked: Meet the Characters and Discover their World.
Has it ever happened to you, that while you were reading a really good story, you suddenly found yourself smiling at something a character said, or maybe groaning at a decision theyâve made? Maybe youâve even felt your heart start to race because of a particularly intense sequence of events, or youâve started to cry because a moment really moved you.
If thatâs happened to you, then you understand that good stories can make us feel on a really deep level. So much so, that we experience literal, physical reactions.
Those emotional and physical reactions when reading a good story are a testament to the fact that we are not just passive spectators, but active participants in the narrative.
What does it mean to be active participants in a narrative? It means that you are part of the story. You are embarking on your own journey where you encounter new people, places and things. And those encounters leave you emotionally invested and changed.
Youâre not just reading about people, places and events like out of a textbook. You are building a relationship with the characters and their world. You are experiencing moments alongside with them.
And so, as you will soon be entering on your reading journey into The Unmarked, I figured that it would be valuable to give you a brief introduction of the characters you will meet along the way, and give you a glimpse into their world.
So, without further ado, letâs meet our main characters:
Full Name: Dawn Brookesdaughter
Age: 17 years-old
Residence: City of Aura, Uplands, Erom.
Calling: Guardian of Third Order
Dawn is someone who thrives on ambition. When she has a goal in mind, she lets nothing get in her way. Excellence, determination and achievement are her core values. She is extremely focused and disciplined. Her intensity might be off-putting to some, but her confidence, extroversion and playfulness is attractive to many. For all her admirers, Dawn is extremely selective about who she lets in. And the ones she does choose to let in⌠might not always lead her down the right path.
Full Name: Scarlet âPurelightâ Brookesdaughter
Age: 17 years-old
Residence: City of Aura, Uplands, Erom.
Calling: Artisan
Scarlet is someone who loves to create beautiful things. Everything she does is done with care and intention. She is extremely reserved, which makes it difficult for people to connect with her, though she easily becomes emotionally attached to others. Despite her gentle and quiet demeanor, Scarlet holds a deep strength and resilience that can carry her through even the darkest of nights.
Full Name: Wolfe âBloodwoodâ.
Age: 20 years-old
Residence: City of Torrem, Lowlands, Erom.
Calling: Guardian of Third Order
Wolfe is someone who loves discovering new people, places and things. He is a quick learner and adapts easily to new environments. His charming and down-to-earth personality allows him to easily make friends wherever he is. But his wandering spirit and nomadic lifestyle are also a symptom of a broken past, which makes it difficult for Wolfe to connect with others on a deep level. The relationships that he ends up finding himself in often turn out being rather dark and painful entanglements.
Full Name: Olive Hyacinthsdaughter
Age: 18 years-old
Residence: City of Aura, Uplands, Erom.
Calling: Guardian of Third Order
Olive is someone who loves to challenge herself. Stepping out of her comfort zone is a routine practice. Olive believes that in order to grow, one must constantly be putting themselves to the test emotionally, mentally and physically. But what Olive has yet to learn is that venturing into the unfamiliar without proper caution can leave one lost in a difficult place with no way back.
Full Name: River Torrentsson
Age: 17 years-old
Residence: City of Aura, Uplands, Erom.
Calling: Guardian of Third Order
River is someone who is deeply loyal. His devotion causes him to treat all matters of life with respect and honor. River is a kind, self-sacrificing, good-natured man who wants the best for others and will go out of his way to do so. But when loyalties run deep and are tied to many things, they may eventually clash. And when loyalties clash⌠it can be a very hazardous thing for the selfless like River.
Now that youâve gotten to know a little bit about the characters, here is the world the you and they will be navigating together. An important note to consider when looking at this map is: East is up.
The Land of Erom is separated into two halves. The âUplandsâ are in the east, because thatâs where the sun rises. Ironically, that is also where the Rayless Wood is: a dark, mysterious and dangerous forest whose shadow slowly spreads throughout the land like a sickness. The forest between Dardem and Ardus as well as the mountains between Tarlys and Torrem separate the land into the Northern Territories (on the right) and the Southern Territories (on the left).
Gear up, because this time next week, the journey begins. A journey through a mystical realm in which you will encounter secrets, power and shadows older than the world itself.
